How to get FASTag

Every time we get stuck in toll we think of applying for FASTag but forget about it after we cross the toll. This time we remembered and got it too. Hope we can cross that dreaded Krishnagiri toll faster now.

FASTag allows direct payment of toll from our prepaid account. This saves lot of time and fuel.
There are dedicated lane for FASTag however in some places we have seen other vehicles too going through the same lane and money paid manually.

Getting FASTag is easy and the procedure is simple.

Documents Required:
1. Copy of RC
2. Copy of DL
3. A passport size Photo
4. Copy of Address Proof
5. Copy of ID proof (Aadhar card will do for both ID and Address)
6. Cheque in favor of "ICICI ETC POOL A/C 0103SLELTCOC for Rs 500. *No cash*
7. Application form which can be downloaded from ICICI website.

Once the form is filled and all documents are ready visit the nearest point of sale location on a working day.
My case it was the mythree towers in bommanahalli. Submit the documents and get the acknowledgment receipt.
If you are visiting ICICI bank in mythree towers, bommanahalli you can contact Mr. Ram 8951879026. He was very helpful.

The whole process takes 7 days. I submitted the documents on Saturday and on Tuesday i got a message that account has been updated as per request. I had forgotten about FASTag by then and thought its some junk message. Then on Wednesday i got a message that my account XXXXXXXX is activated. Still no clue and ignored then same day another message said FASTag account No XXXXXXXX has been activated. Now i remembered it all and created the online login account.
Use the customer ID and DoB to create online FASTag account .
Once the account is created you can start transferring money to the account.
On Friday i called up Ram and found the tag was ready. Got the tag in evening.

Other points:
1. No charge if we transfer money to fastag account from ICICI bank netbanking.
2. When we change car this account needs to be closed and new tag should be obtained.
3. The balance amount in the account will be refunded when we close the account.
4. NEFT transfer allowed if you do not have cheque. *no cash*. Mentioning again as many had come without cheque.

I wish FASTag will be made compulsory along with new car registration. Yes some may not cross a toll road ever but this helps majority. 500Rs should not be a big deal while buying a car.
Also it will be good if we can link the bank account or credit card so there wont be any embarrassing no balance moment.

I wanted to test it last weekend but had some other work so could not do it. Will write another post about the fastag experience when i will cross around 6 tolls next weekend.

We reached mallaghata falls around 2:15 PM. When we reached the place it started drizzling again. The temple nearby was closed. The lake area looked very big but there was not much water. We saw plenty of tractors taking mud from the lake bed. The falls is just that the water flowing from the lake over a rock. Since there was not much water in the lake there was no falls. We thought we would turn back and visit Tandaga. By then the drizzle became rain. There was no one nearby and place looked beautiful in rain. We just got down from the car and played in rain for some time. Luckily had got a set of spare dress for Harsh and he could change. We came back to turuvekere bus stand and had hot gobi manchurian and drove back home.

Last 3 Kms to the lake was like this.

View of the mallghata kere.

Not a great place to visit. Lucky for us it rained else it would have been a boring visit.

The Gangadhareswara temple is on the lane opposite to Chennakeshava temple. The elderly person we met before informed us that the main gate will be closed and a small gate left to the temple will be open. If not for them we would have returned without visiting the temple. The door to the inner sanctum was closed. We could only see the exteriors and the big nandi. Looks like the mandapa and surrounding place was not cleaned for very long time. We could hear the chanting from the inner sanctum running continuously from a recorded system.

The other interesting thing is the big bell. The bell looks like its made of stone but when hit it made metal sound.

The intricate carvings on the nandi was very beautiful. A shiva linga was carved on the chain of the nandi.

The statue was polished too smooth.

Another shrine to the left of the temple was closed too.

The open mandapa and nandi in middle.

Few carvings on the pillars of the temple.

Abandoned ganesha statue.

Image of Kannapan. A temple dedicated to Kannapan on a small hill above Sri kalahasthi temple.

Again would have loved to see the interiors and also the unique Shiva idol with Ganga sitting on top of his head.

The Chennakeshava temple in Turuvekere stands small in middle of the residences. It had started drizzling while we reached the temple. We were waiting for the rain to slow down so we can go to the temple. Two elderly person came out of their house and informed that the temple is closed. There was a death in the house left of the temple and the priest has gone somewhere. However main entrance is open and we could see the exteriors. The rain slowed down a bit and we went to the temple.

The ceiling has simple floral design.

The front porch is supported by two pillars.

The outer walls had a simple design. The walls were mostly plain.

The base of the temple with plain moldings.

Vimana with most part ruined.

Would have been happy if we could have seen the interiors and had darshan of Lord Vishnu.

Sri lakshmi beteraya temple is one of the famous temples in the Turuvekere. We reached the temple around 1 PM. The temple was open and not many people were there. After the darshan we went around the temple. The temple was built in dravida style with huge Gopuram and the vimana above the main shrine. Sri mrukunda muni and Sri chandrachooda muni came to turuvekere and was doing thapas in the town. The mayavi rakshasha in-disguise of cruel animals tries to kill the muni.

Lord Vishnu came on horse and hunted those demons. Thus the name Beteraya.

The statue was installed by Hebbaru Chowdaiah and the pooja was done first in 1194. Lakshmi Devi is on the east of  main moorthy.

Immadi veeranarashingaraya and Lokambike, the 10th generation of Hebbaru Chowdaiah donated the uthsava moorthy and took the near by villages under them and improved the villages.

The interior of the temple was bit more intact. The idol of Lord Vishnu was looking beautiful.

The ceiling of the mantapa has the trademark flower patterns. The nine bay has nine different floral designs on the ceiling.

The four lathe turned pillars support the mantapa roof.

The sculptures what ever remains also was mostly defaced.

Our last trip to a Hoysala temple was in Feb 2016 and we decided to explore few more this Sunday. Though it was late when we decided the weather was too good to stay put at home. Turuvkere was our primary destination but stumbled upon Nagalapura and Aralaguppe temples. Our first visit was to the lesser known Hoysala temples, Kedareshwara temple in the Nagalapura village.
We reached the temple at 11:45 AM and the temple was open. The care taker of the temple Ramachandra was just finishing is late breakfast. He showed us around the temple.

The 12th century temple is ruined partly due to lack of maintenance. Ramachandra and another person was appointed recently to take care of both Kedareswara and Chennakesava temple.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in linga form. Pooja in the temple is performed everyday by a priest in morning.

Though some parts of the temple are destroyed the remains looks beautiful just like many other Hoysala temples.

The roof of the temple is one of the main attraction. There are 9 patterns carved on the roof. All nine in different shape.

The flower pattern at the center of the mantapa.

The temple is built on a raised platform. The regular 6 frieze panel was present except that the 4th panel was blank. Not sure if it was destroyed.

Detailed carvings of many Hindu deity can be found above the panel. Some of the structures are commonly found in many of the Hoysala temples.

The nandi in this temple and Gangadeswara temple in turuvkere were not looking straight at the Shiva Linga. They were looking to the right.

Some pictures of the elaborate relief work on the outer walls.

Arjuna shooting the fish.

Gajasurasamhara, Lord Shiva destroying the elephant demon.

The frieze panels with elephant, horse, flower, yalli, swan.

The temple doesn't have any fixed timings. It depends of the arrival of the caretaker. He mentioned that generally the temple will be open somewhere between 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM and close anytime after 5:00 PM.
