We started day two of our Bijapur trip with visit to Shivagiri. The massive 85ft Lord Shiva statue is located 5Kms from the Vijayapura town. The statue is the third largest statue of Lord Shiva in sitting posture. The statue is made of 1500 tonnes of concrete and steel. Its owned by a private trust and they are turning it into a theme park with small attractions for kids. There is also a Ganesha temple in the complex.
The statue was molded beautifully with all details like snake, rudraksh, third eye, trishul, damuru, crescent moon and Ganga.
The trust is in the process of setting up an old age home in the complex.
The garden is also well maintained and the place is turning into a picnic spot. We saw a big group of tourist having food in the park and having a good time.
The closer look at the idol.
There was a small enclosure next to the statue where few animals were kept. There was a deer, couple of peacock, geese and few other birds.
We were here.
A must visit place in Bijapur. Jahan Begum Tomb in Ainapur is 3km from where and it was our next stop.
