Upli Buruj is a tower located 260m from Sherzi Bastion. The inscription on the wall says it was built by Haidar Khan one of the general of Ali Adil Shah I and Ibrahim Adil Shah II. The eighty feet tower has flight of stone steps winding round outside. Ali Adil Shah I started building the city walls after winning the battle of Talaikot. He assigned sections of the walls to nobles in his kingdom to build. Haidar Khan was out of Bijapur for few years busy capturing towards Belgaum. The city wall was completed when he returned and that angered Haidar Khan. The king then ordered the general to build a tower that over looks ever other thing and thus Upli Buruj was built by Haidar Khan.

Two guns of great length is placed on the tower.

The Lumcherri is the longer of the two guns.

It was not sure if the guns were built on top of the tower or moved from somewhere.

The tower offers a good view of all the big monuments scattered around Bijapur.

We were here.
250m from Upli Buruj is the chand baudi. Chand baudi is a water tank and its closed now. So that brings end to first day sightseeing in Bijapur.
