Date:  28th Feb 2015

Visitors: Arun, Shilpi, Harsh, Muthusamy and Vijayalakshmi.

Timing: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Charges: Jeep - 1262Rs + 100Rs for driver.
This was was 2nd top on the list of places to visit in Rameshwaram.

Got travels number from Hotel Tamilnadu reception and booked a Jeep.

They said Jeeps and Mini van are allowed only till 4:30PM so we started from Hotel at 2:30.

There is road till certain point and from then on the drive was on the beach.
The famous church destroyed in 1964 cyclone.

There are few shops setup by the local fishermen family. The town is not completely deserted, its inhabited by few fishermen.

The Jeep will take you till the destroyed railway station and from there on you need to walk.

It was extremely hot and walking in the sand was difficult.

I wanted to go to the tip of danushkodi as seen in the maps but i really couldnt make out where exactly i was.

There was only sand and water everywhere. We become tired soon.

We wandered for about 20 min.

Inside the church.

Srilanka is 18Km from the tip of Danushkodi.

Lord Rama built a bridge to Srilanka from here.

This town plays a vital role in the story of Ramayana.
We saw some construction work going on to extend the connectivity. Not sure if it was road or rail.
Ruins of shiva temple.
Another famous landmark in Dhanushkodi, The post office.

Not sure what it is.
Remains of famous railway station.
Sand dunes everywhere. Though the place was beautiful we could not enjoy much because of the heat.

Would suggest anyone to visit here early in morning to avoid blistering sun.
Another ruined site.

This place has a fascinating history and i am planning to read more about it in coming days.

On the way back we visited the Kothandaramasamy temple.

This is where Lord Ram crowned Vibheshna as King of Sri Lanka after defeating Ravana.

This is one of the famous places in Rameshwaram.
Road leading to the temple.
