Date: 23rd Sep 2017 to 1st Oct 2017
Travelers: Arun, Shilpi and Harsh
Total Distance: 3517 Kms
Places visited: Vijayawada, Gopalpur, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Dwarka Thirumala, Mypadu.
Stay: APTDC Haritha hotels in Andhra and OTDC Panthnivas in Odisha.
We planned to visit the temple city Bhubaneswar during Harsh's dussehra holidays 2017. We were contemplating for long if we should drive or take train. With 4 days leave i got a 10 day vacation so decided to take drive and visit other places on the way. The drive was uneventful and we were glad for that. The roads were very well laid for the most part of the trip. Only very few sections were bad, one was between visakapatnam to srikakulam and drive to Dwarka thirumala in Andhra. We saw all the places that we planned except Lalitgiri.
We liked Bhubaneswar for its wide roads (6 lanes within city in few places), less traffic, least cost of food and its taste.
For most meal we only had rasagolla, aloo chop, samosa and other snacks. Roads in old town was narrow but easily driveable. People honk a lot but no yelling and screaming.
Another thing surprised us is that most junctions in capital city is still managed by cops, they don't have signals. Even then there is no chaos or traffic jams.
Very very few women drive in the capital. In 3 days we would have hardly seen some 5-10 women driving two wheeler or car.
Anyone could happily settle here. Everything was good except for its weather. It was extremely hot and its almost October. We needed to turn on AC even while driving at 4 AM in the morning.
Another thing that surprised us is that it becomes bright around 5 AM. You can even drive without headlights at 5:30. Same way its becomes dark too soon. Probably we too should also have day light savings.
And finally we reached the border. Our longest trip so far.
Detailed post on every place coming up in following days.
