Nehru zoological park also called as Hyderabad zoo is another major kids attraction in Hyderabad. The zoo was open to public on 6th Oct 1963. The zoo spreads across 380 acres of land and is home for close to 140 species. This is the first zoo in the country to display animals in open moated enclosures. The zoo is home to Asiatic lion, Indian rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, white tiger, hippopotamus, giraffe, various birds and reptiles. The special attraction is the nocturnal animals like owl, hedgehog, civet, bats etc. The day and night are reversed inside this section so that these animals remain active during the visitor hours.

Some pictures from the zoo.

Zoo entrance. We reached there at the opening hours and there was not much crowd. The battery operated car ride is for 40 minutes. There were 5 of them. If you miss the first slot then you will have to wait for 40 min.

White tiger roaming in the enclosure.

Cheetah cent marking its territory ;)

Leopard taking sun bath.

King of the jungle enclosure.

Restless bear.

Cute baby rhino.

Giraffe. Harsh and Shilpi seeing it for the first time. I have seen it before in Mysore zoo .

Seeing iguana for the first time.

Nocturnal animals. The tickets to be purchased here. Its too dark inside and bit hard to get pictures. Walk carefully.

Some Owl.

Seeing the way harsh holds the camera i feel nothing will be captured but he has got a good pic of the group :)

Toy train ride. The tickets to be purchased at the separate counter.

Baboons.

Not sure what they are, they were hyper active.

Some animals of the cat family.

Jurassic park. Life size models of some of the dino's are displayed here. Can skip the section if tired.

There was also a butterfly park but we hardly found 2 or 3 of them. Again a candidate to skip.
We skipped the aquarium and museum. Overall a nice place for a half day trip in Hyderabad.
