From Prasanna Veknatachalapathy temple in gunaseelam we went to the hotel Tamilnadu. Had lunch in banana leaf restaurant in the hotel. After resting for a while we left to Vayalur Subramanya temple. Its located around 10Kms from Hotel Tamilnadu Trichy. We reached around 4:30 and again not much crowd in the temple. Though its a Murugan temple the first shrine is for Lord Shiva and then Goddess Aadhinayaki. The shrine for Lord murugan is behind Lord shiva. He gives darshan with his 2 consorts goddess Valli and goddess Deivayanai. The peacock here is called devendra Mayil (divine peacock).
The story of the temple.
After saving Arunagirinathar in thiruvannamalai, Lord Murugan asked him to come to vayalur and wrote the letter OM on his tongue and blessed him to write thiruppugazh. Saint Arunagirinathar then wrote thiruppugazh which is a collection of 16000 songs, majority in praise of lord Murugan. Its believed that the shakthi theertham in the temple is created by Lord Murugan himself with his spear. Also sri kribananda variyar has mentioned this temple in many of his speeches and brought great fame to this temple.
Some pictures from the temple.
The archway to the temple.
A gopuram on the side.
The main hall in the temple.
Sthala Vrikhsha tree. Vanni tree.
Ganesha idol.
6 faced Lord Muruga under the Vanni tree.
Main Gopuram in the temple.
Few other images from the temple.
For reasons unknown this is my top favorite place in our trichy trip.
