Date: 31 Dec 2015 - 3 Jan 2016
Travelers: Arun, Shilpi, Muthusamy, Vijayalakshmi and Harsh
Total Distance: 937 Kms
Road Condition: Excellent till Namakkal and then on Good 2 lane road.
Stay: Hotel Tamilnadu Trichy.
Trichy was the place chosen to say Goodbye to 2015 and welcome 2016. Initially the plan was for 3 days only but as i was reading about Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) i learnt there are many more beautiful temples nearby. Checked the availability in Hotel Tamilnadu and found the rooms still available for 31st. Advanced our plan by a day and we started on 31st early morning. The drive on NH7 is always a bliss. It was all nice and fine until we hit the mist covered road. The visibility was reduced to almost zero and had to slow down drastically. Though our roads are built so well one needs to be careful of few crazy people on these highways. Bus coming on the wrong side that too on the right most lane, old tractors without tail lamp or any reflectors, people crossing the road without paying attention to vehicle on the road. Luckily we met them all on the part of road where the visibility was better. After crossing these hurdles Ertiga picked its first puncture, a big nail pierced the rear right tyre. We lost time in finding a puncture shop and fixing it but the extra day gave us enough buffer and did not mind losing time. We stopped frequently to click photos and find a place to take a dip in cauvery.
Some pics of drive to Trichy.
The pic doesn't really capture the full effect of mist.
Never failed to stop and click a pic of sunrise on NH7.
First stop to see if we can take a dip in Cauvery. The water was stagnant and not very good so had to skip this.
Finally found a place all for ourselves and had a nice time playing in water. Had tough time convincing Harsh and my father to come out.
We reached trichy in afternoon after making another stop to visit a temple on the way. In 4 days we saw 9 temples and one unsuccessful visit to a temple and a dam.
Highlights of the visit are seeing
Worlds largest functioning hindu temple, One of worlds oldest water regulator, A 1800 year old temple, second most wealthy temple in tamilnadu.
Detailed posts on the visits coming in following days.
