After having darshan at Vayalur Murugan temple we went to Woraiyur to Vekkali amman temple. The route was through a very narrow road. I guess google maps got confused with shortest route and the narrowest route. Luckily no 3 wheeler or 4 wheeler came in the opposite. Pooja was performed to the Goddess when we reached. We had to wait for 20 odd minutes for darshan. The temple was a small one with lot of beautiful paintings on the walls and roof. There is a trishul in which devotees can write down their wish in a paper and tie it. When inquired about it some one said we can write down our request for the things that we lost or things not gotten back from someone and we will get back those things. Something different from what we see in most temples. The idol in this temple was decorated beautifully with lot of flowers and lemon garland. Devotees are given lemon here along with flower. The temple like all other Amman temple gets crowded on Friday's.
The story of the temple.
The goddess saved the people of trichy from natural calamity. The goddess then requested people not to build any roof over hear till all the people get shelter. Even now there is no roof above the main sanctum. The goddess here is seen with Thrishul, udukai (drum) akshyapatra and rope in her four hands. Her right leg folded and the left leg on the demon.
Some pictures from the temple.
Facade of the temple.
Big lamps used for the pooja.
Thrishul covered with the wish paper.
The main shrine.
Lion, Vehicle of the goddess.
Some of the paintings on the roof. Vekkaliamman.
Goddess Mookambika.
Temple Gopuram.
And that brings end to our 2015 travel. Went back to the hotel to welcome 2016 by sleeping off ;)
